For years, women had sought ways to enhance their natural beauty. Even the tiny detail on eye lashes is a great deal. From simple mascaras and eye lash curlers, an Eyelash Growth enhancer is born.
Latisse is a product of serendipity. Would you believe? Latisse is also known as 0.03% bimatoprost ophthalmic solution. Bimatoprost is a drug used for managing ocular hypertension and preventing the progress of glaucoma since 2001. But due to claims of patients that their eye lashes are growing longer and thicker, bimatoprost was then put into test clinically. It was not long when Allergan, the manufacturer of this drug, sought for approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that this would be approved as a cosmetic formulation. Bimatoprost was then approved by the U.S. FDA Dermatologic and Ophthalmic Drugs Advisory in December 2008 under the name of LATISSE.
Who can use Latisse?
Latisse, a prostaglandin analog, is a treatment for people experiencing hypotrichosis, a condition of loss or reduction of hair including the eye lashes. This Eyelash Growth solution helps in making the eye lash grow longer, thicker, and darker.
The drug is not recommended for children below 16 years old.
How is Latisse Used?
Your eyelids must be clean and free of any eye makeup, cream or lotions. Contact lenses should also be removed and reinserted 15 minutes after the drug administration. Latisse may cause discoloration of the contact lenses.
The first step is to drop a tiny amount of the solution at the sterile applicator brush and use this to sweep your eye lash baseline. The sterile applicator is only for single use. Apply the formula only at the base of the eye lashes (not on the lower lid). This is done once a day and before going to sleep. If you miss a dose, do not apply twice the next day. Be sure to use the product only once a day because using it more than the required dose will not be any different. The effect of Latisse is gradual.
How Long Shall I Wait to See the Results?
Latisse is applied for a minimum of eight weeks for eye lash growth. At the fourth to sixth week, the expected effects could be noticed. Your eye lashes would appear darker and longer.
What are the Expected Side Effects?
The user of Latisse may experience common side effects such as itching and eye redness. It was reported that almost 4% of users experience this discomforts. The skin of the eye lid may darken permanently. Hair may grow on areas which we don’t want them to if unconscious in frequently applying the solution on those areas. In some cases, a decrease in visual acuity is developed. This may be manifested through blurred vision.
How Much Does Latisse Cost?
Latisse is priced at around $120.
However, it should be known that Latisse is available only with prescription. It should be used for Eyelash Growth only under a physician’s close supervision. Also the effect of Latisse on eye lash growth is not permanent. Discontinuation of the treatment may lead to gradual return of the lashes to its original form.
