Is 4g Wimax For Cell Phones Only?
ANSWER: NO
While the mobile market for cell phone broadband Internet has been the main focus for cellular carriers and manufacturers alike, 4G WiMAX broadband has already made it into the market as a home desktop PC solution for high speed Internet connectivity. Unlike traditional high speed Internet such as cable, DSL, and satellite services, WiMAX has allowed residential and business subscribers to connect wirelessly via their PC without complicated cabling installation.
WiMAX spares the end user the extensive installation process hassles through the use of simple Ethernet connected modems (modem to PC) that only require a power source. For many home high speed Internet users, installation factors limited the location options for a family or room centered computer or required extensive Wi-Fi networking.
With a subscription to 4G WiMAX services, one can experience download speeds of up to 4.0 Mbps over a much more secure wireless environment than Wi-Fi due to SSL encryption technology. It is the security of this technology that is quickly grabbing the attention of the business community just as much as the consumer.
The technology is fairly well developed, however, locations are still somewhat scarce. Momentum is growing for the installation of more WiMAX towers and many of the 50 states already have the services, but mainly in the larger metropolitan areas. 4G broadband should see significant growth in rural areas over the next coming years and definitely within the decade.
Some current locations for WiMAX wireless Internet include the states of Washington, California, Oregon, Michigan, Pennsylvania, The District of Columbia (Washington D.C.), North Carolina, Missouri, Illinois, Nevada, Utah, and Texas.
Texas has the most availability of WiMAX locations with the following cities: Corpus Christi, Houston, Dallas/Fortworth, San Antonio, Amarillo, Wichita Falls, Abilene, Austin, Waco, Odessa, Lubbock, and Killeen.
In addition to broadband 4G Internet access, carriers are already offering VoIP phone services in bundled packages that are surprisingly affordable. These bundled services are available to both residential customers and businesses.
